Our wee stolen chicken, known as Iggy, passed away peacefully tonight. I don’t think there is anything more we could have done, as she never really got the hang of balance, and was wobbly on her feet. She was so much smaller than her brothers and sisters and she was so cute and blessed our lives for the short time she was in it. She cheeped and peeped her way into our hearts and her absence after a few short days with us, will be greatly felt. Iggy was a lovely little chicken.
Now we just need to tell the kids in the morning and hold a wee service in the field where all our other favourite chickens who have died end up. It will be a good time to stop and think about the true meaning of Easter as we say goodbye to the cutest little button.
Come again soon – the circle of life will continue on, but we will miss Iggy.

Oh this is so sad. I had a kitten like that at one time. Perhaps nature knows best. This must have been why it was left behind by the mother. Prayers for you as you tell the children and hold the “service.”

Hi Sophie. Even though Iggy had such a short life, she was a blessing in our lives.

Oh how dreadful for you. I guess that mamma hen knew that something was wrong, hence her neglect of Iggy. Hope the kids aren’t too upset when you tell them.

Hi There. The kids took it really well. I think they are beginning to get used to death in the country… having said that, so far we have only really had to deal with chickens. I’m not sure what will happen if a goat or the cat dies.

She passed away in warmth, comfort, and knowing she was cared for. That’s all one can ask for in this life.

Hi Jenn. I think the least we could do was let her die loved and with a name.

That is sad Sarah :(. As you say though, the message is there that you can pass on now and her tiny body will go back into the earth to carry on…all in all a great message that we could all do with remembering at this time of year :).

Hi Fran. I have to say I really miss Iggy and her constant peeping, but it really wasn’t meant to be. Sometimes the hard things are actually the right things, we just need to make sure we don’t get wound up in the wrong things – if you know what I mean.
